Hastings is a great day out and a convenient route centre for longer holidays. Attractions include Underwater World, Smuggers Adventure, the beach, super shopping centre, cosy Old Town gift shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs, and, of course, the 1066 Story with Hastings Castle and its whispering dungeons at its heart.

Hastings Castle was built at West Hill by William the Conqueror, following the invasion in 1066, to defend this important trading port and route to Normandy. The battle site itself is at Battle!
Fishermen's Museum Net Shops and fishing boats on The Stade


The Stade is the area of shingle foreshore and harbour still used by one of the oldest fishing fleets in Britain. Hastings lifeboat station and visitor centre is positioned on The Stade. The Victorian black, wooden Net Shops are unique to Hastings and were built to store fishing nets and tackle for the beach launched boats.

The Fishermen's Museum is accommodated in an old church and exhibits a complete sailing lugger built nearby.
Hastings East Hill Lift

Spectacular views are to be seen by ascending the East Hill Lift, from where the lovely three mile long Country Park can be appreciated, comprising heathland, ancient woodland and fabulous cliff coastline all within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. West Hill Lift, on the other hand, is a convenient way to approach Hastings Castle from the Old Town.
